Church, Warren is looking forward to Big Heart Day

THIS Sunday will be extra an special for us at St Francis Church in Leigh Park.

October 4 marks the day when the church remembers the life and example of St Francis of Assisi, who our church is dedicated to.

You may remember that he was famous for his care of animals.

In the past the Bishop of Portsmouth has joined our celebrations, but this year we are doing something a bit different, as we are inviting members of our local community to share this special day with us.

St Francis’ ‘Big Heart Day’ is a real chance for the family of the church to show what is has to offer those around us, who we seek to work with and support, so everyone can flourishes and benefit from the work of the church.

We are inviting anyone from across Leigh Park and the surrounding areas to join us, and will be inviting residents to share in our celebrations.

At 10am, the churches of St Francis, Leigh Park and St Clare, Warren Park, will come together in praise and worship.

This will be particularly good for families and those with children as an opportunity for them to get to know their church community better.

We will sing, pray and share the bread and wine of Holy Communion.

Then from 11am there will be coffee and cake for everyone to enjoy.

This will lead into a free lunchtime picnic with party food supplied by church families.

After that we have a special ‘Leigh Park – Live’ set from singers of the Urban Vocal Group.

This fabulous project is made up of young people from across the Leigh Park area who are trained in a variety of modern vocal styles and who are fast becoming well-known and recognised for their excellence.

It’s great that the group are local people, who we can be proud of here in Leigh Park.

This will be a great chance for us all to let our hair down and have some fun in the community.

As vicar, I really value those times when our community can show off how wonderful it is.

With the Big Heart Day we have such an opportunity to show our welcoming spirit, our generosity, our excellence and our dreams with our local community.

n St Francis Church, in Riders Lane, Leigh Park, holds its regular Sunday service from 10am each week.
