RESIDENTS in Waterlooville have been rallying round to help earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan.

Members of Waterlooville Rotary Club held a collection in the town centre and raised £930.

The cash will be enough to buy two ShelterBoxes, which are disaster relief tents to help house families.

Gerry Shimbart, the club’s community service chairman, said: ‘Each ShelterBox consists of a 10-person tent, together with cooking equipment, tools, water containers and purification equipment. They even include children’s colouring books and crayons.’

President Roy Wilding added: ‘Yet again, I have been stunned by the generosity of the public to this very urgent appeal.’

St George’s Church has also promised to donate its Sunday collection.
