A TALL ship from the city is heading off to take part in a major regatta.

The traditional square-rigged ship Stavros S Niarchos, operated by the Tall Ships Youth Trust in Portsmouth, is getting ready to depart for the event next week.

She will sail under the banner of the Association of Sail Training Organisations.

Tall Ships Youth Trust has two other ships taking part in the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta.

Tim Law, from the trust, said: ‘To be involved in such an iconic Tall Ships event is a fantastic opportunity.

‘There is a huge buzz surrounding the regatta.’
