STAGECOACH has been accused of ‘forgetting’ bus users in one corner of Havant.
The bus company recently announced it was to invest more than £1.5m in its fleet across the region.
But Veronica Rowe, of Tytherley Green, West Leigh, said she feels more investment should be made in the number 21 Sunday service which runs through the area.
The 69-year-old said: ‘We seem to be very isolated in West Leigh with the buses.
‘We only get one an hour on Sunday, the number 21.
‘And if you need to get to Queen Alexandra Hospital you have to change at Havant then get a bus to Cosham.
‘From there you have to walk up the hill and it’s a long way.
‘I’m quite active but it’s difficult for a lot of older people.
‘And there are occasions when you need to get to hospital on a Sunday, either to visit or go to the casualty department.
‘You have no choice unless you can afford a taxi and I can’t, I’m a pensioner.
‘It’s as if we don’t exist here, that we’ve been forgotten.’
But a spokesperson for Stagecoach said there simply was not the demand for an increased Sunday service.
In a statement the company said: ‘We review our services continually to ensure we focus our resources where there is most demand.
‘We provide a service on Monday to Saturday from West Leigh and Havant, to and from the Queen Alexandra Hospital, responding to demand from local residents who wish to attend appointments, however, there has been little demand for a Sunday service.
‘Residents in the West Leigh area have access to a frequent 15 minute service to both Havant and Portsmouth via route 20/21 with a range of tickets options available for passengers who make regular journeys.’
Stagecoach has announced a £1.5m investment in the Havant and Waterlooville fleet to improve frequency and instal WiFi.
