Portsmouth residents urged to get out of their cars

A NEW campaign is being launched to encourage residents to use other means of transport apart from their cars.

My Journey has been set up by Portsmouth City Council who have arranged a host of activities to get people into other ways of travelling.

A My Journey team will be outside Jamie’s Italian Restaurant, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, this weekend and will be showcasing unique and more environmentally friendly forms of transport.

Activities include a new bike racing competition, a double decker bus which people can explore, a pedal-powered smoothie maker and a try-out area for bikes.

Councillor Jason Fazackarley, cabinet member for transport and environment said: ‘My Journey is an exciting opportunity to give the people of Portsmouth more options in the way they move around the city.

Our launch event at Gunwharf Quays will showcase some of the exciting things we have planned as well as being a fun-filled day out for all the family.’

My Journey is funded by the Department for Transport and it is designed to help people make better choices when it comes to travel.

The campaign aims to encourage people to shift towards more sustainable forms of travel by making new cycle routes in the city.

A website has also been created for the project and will provide travel updates.
