THE managing director of South West Trains has recorded a video explaining why customers have experienced rail disruptions in recent weeks.

Tim Shoveller also issued an open letter to the firm’s customers, in which he apologised for the disruption caused by wind and rain.

He said: ‘Despite some of the worst conditions the rail network has faced, more than 90 per cent of our network remains open for business.

‘We are continuing to run many hundreds of trains every day to get people to work and make sure they can go about their daily lives.’

He continued: ‘Unfortunately, the landslip at Botley not only affected services in the Southampton area but that is a key route to let trains and train crews to run from our depots in Fratton and provides lots of capacity and key services from places like Farnborough and Woking on the route to London Waterloo.’
