Road shut at weekend for work on trees

A BUSY road will be closed for large parts of the weekend so work can be carried out on trees in danger of falling.

The B2149 Manor Lodge Road, which links Rowlands Castle and Horndean, will be closed during the day on Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8 to allow around 70 trees to be worked on.

East Hampshire District Council had originally planned to carry out the work in November but it had to be postponed.

Martin Healey, the council’s countryside and biodiversity officer, said: ‘We are aware this will be an inconvenience for some motorists who regularly use the road, but this work is very important.

‘Many of the trees are diseased, some are in a very dangerous condition and are leaning in toward the road, which is a busy road with a 60mph speed limit.

‘To keep everyone safe and prevent any accidents it’s important we get this work done as soon as possible.’

Some of trees will be felled

The road will be closed from 8am to 8pm on Saturday and 8am and 5pm on Sunday.
