Driver is taken to hospital after losing control of car

A MAN needed to be cut out of his car by firefighters after crashing into a central reservation.

The driver lost control on the A259 at Chichester.

A 999 call was received at about 1.40am yesterday and two fire engines went to the scene from Chichester fire station.

The driver was trapped in the wreckage and firefighters used heavy cutting equipment to release him from the car.

The man was put on a spinal board and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Firefighters were at the scene for about 40 minutes and made the scene safe by clearing debris from the road.

Earlier in the night, just after midnight, fire crews went to a small fire at a house in Salthill Road, Fishbourne.

The fire had started in a cavity wall at the back of a wood burning stove. A panel of the wood burner was removed and the fire was hosed down.
