Sunken yacht warning

SAILORS in Emsworth are being asked to keep an eye out for a boat which sunk at its mooring on Sunday.

The 11m yacht sank on the port side of the Emsworth channel, between the Emsworth South Cardinal Beacon and the Visitors’ Pontoon.

Two masts can be seen sticking up at both high and low tides, and the Chichester Harbour Master, Richard Craven, issued a warning yesterday to other mariners to beware while sailing in the channel.

A spokesman for the Solent Coastguard said: ‘The yacht sank on its moorings.

‘It was an old vessel, and had been on the mooring for years and years and years.

‘In bad weather old vessels can spring a leak, and this one sank on Sunday.

‘We have been in touch with the yacht owner, who is going to sort it out.’
