Swimmer taken to hospital after suffering leg injury

THE coastguard rescued an early morning swimmer after he was injured by a wave.

A land-based team was sent to Southsea seafront after a crashing wave injured an elderly male swimmer’s leg at around 10.45am.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended but was not needed. He was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

A coastguard spokesman said: ‘It was a guy who was swimming – an elderly person got knocked over by a wave and got a bad leg injury.’
