A MAN has died after the recliner he was sitting on caught fire.

The 92-year-old man was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital with 20 per cent burns after the fire in Rookwood View, Denmead.

As reported, two neighbours heard a smoke alarm and rushed to helped the man, throwing bowls of water over him.

Fire crews from Cosham and Waterlooville were called to the house shortly after 6pm on Saturday.

Firefighters gave the man first aid before paramedics arrived and took him to hospital.

Hampshire Police said the man has died.

A police statement said: ‘A 92-year-old man died following the fire.

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.’

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

An inquest into the death will take place at later date.
