Drink-drive message in car wreck
SHOPPERS will get to see first-hand the potential devastation caused by drink or drug-driving when officers take a smashed up car on a tour of our town centres this week.
As part of Hampshire Constabulary's winter drink and drug-drive campaign, police are taking the car to Portsmouth, Fareham and Waterlooville in the coming days. Officers took the wreck to Petersfield yesterday to drive home their strong message.
Sergeant Darren Ord from the Cosham Roads Policing unit said: 'We want people to see for themselves what to expect if you risk driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
'If you're foolish enough to do so, you're more likely to be involved in a serious collision that could kill you or someone else.
'Even if you survived, you could be fined, banned from driving or jailed, so drink or drug-driving can still ruin your life.
'While the car wreck is on display, our roads policing and safer neighbourhoods officers will be on-hand to talk about the effects of driving under the influence.
'Hopefully, the wreck itself will be sobering enough for most people.'
The car will be taken to West Street in Fareham tomorrow and will be there from 9am to 4pm.
It will be near Waterlooville town centre on Wednesday from 9am to 4pm and Commercial Road, Portsmouth on New Year's Eve, 9am to 4pm.
