LONG tailbacks have been caused on a major road after a two-car accident.

The crash happened at around 4.12pm this afternoon on the A3 at its junction with the A272, two miles north of the turn-off for Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

The northbound carriageway, which experienced a six-mile queue of traffic, was fully open again by 6.24pm.

One of the vehicles caught fire following the collision and firefighters had to be called to put it out.
