An ambulance on an emergency call has been involved in a crash on an A27 slip road in Portsmouth.

The back of the vehicle was damaged in a collision with a red Hyundai car which was apparently following it onto the Eastern Road slip road onto the eastbound carriageway of the A27.

The front of the Hyundai was badly damaged in the crash.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We got a call at 8.55am from the crew of an ambulance at the roundabout at the top of the Eastern Road, in Portsmouth.

‘They reported a car had run into the back of them.

‘The ambulance involved was from Portsmouth Ambulance Station and was attending a category C emergency.

‘That means it needs to respond in an hour. It was not on lights or sirens.

‘Another ambulance was sent out to deal with that call.

‘In this incident, there were no injuries, and the ambulance was taken back to the station.

‘It will be out of action until it is repaired.’

The ambulance was on its way to the emergency call and so did not have a patient on board.
