RAIL passengers faced disruption to their journeys after a train broke down.

People travelling on the 6.18am South West Trains service from Winchester to Portsmouth Harbour had to get a bus from Portsmouth & Southsea after the train broke down as it approached the station.

Rail officials say the damage was caused by faulty track at the station.

Passengers travelling to and from Portsmouth faced delays of up to half an hour and cancellations whilst engineers repaired the train and tracks.

Trains began running as normal from 2pm.

A spokeswoman for South West Trains said: ‘As a result of the infrastructure problem there was disruption to services to and from Portsmouth Harbour.

‘Network Rail and South West Trains engineers worked as quickly as possible to fix both the tracks and the damaged train in order to resume a normal service.

‘On behalf of Network Rail and South West Trains, we would like to apologise for the delays and inconvenience this caused to passengers.’
