TAXI drivers have questioned a national survey that claimed tips were up on last year.

A survey from Swinton Taxi Division, a taxi insurance broker, said that nearly half of drivers thought customers tipped more generously over the Christmas period.

Acacia Taxis, Fareham, said that while they have been busy over the Christmas period, it hasn’t translated into generous tips.

Bob Exton, taxi driver, said: ‘It’s certainly not been happening in Fareham. We have been quite busy but I would say my tips are down 30 or 40 per cent on last year.’

Radio Taxis, Fareham, also said they had been busy but were not sure it had turned into tips.
