FIREFIGHTERS were called to a car fire on the A27.

The owner of a Ford Puma pulled over onto the hard shoulder and dialled 999 at 9pm on Thursday after the engine burst into flames.

A fire crew from Havant went to the scene, on the eastbound carriageway just outside Chichester, and extinguished the fire.

Police closed part of the road for a few minutes while the fire was put out and they arranged for the vehicle to be towed away to a nearby garage.

The motorist did not suffer any injuries.
