A SUSPECTED car fire on the M27 earlier today turned out to be a false alarm.

One fire crew from Fareham and one from Cosham were called to the slip road on the east bound carriageway of the M27, near junction 11, shortly after 5pm.

On arrival, crews found steam was coming off the vehicle – which was a Land Rover – rather than smoke.

It is believed to have been caused by the car’s cooling system breaking.
