THE Hovercraft Society will celebrate an anniversary at an event in Gosport next month.
The society will commemorate 50 years of UK military hovercraft involvement, called Seahorse 50.
The event will take place from Friday, September 9 until Saturday, September 10 at the Hovercraft Museum in Lee-on-the-Solent.
On the Friday, schools, colleges and youth groups will have the opportunity for hosted visits.
Saturday will be a social opportunity for ex-servicemen, current serving personnel and their partners and anyone who worked on hovercraft at the British Hovercraft Corporation, Vosper Thornycroft and Griffon Hovercraft.
A group of Royal Marines has also been invited to the event along with the mayor of Gosport, Councillor Christopher Carter.
The general pubic will be invited to attend for free on the Friday.
Brian Russell, who is organising the event, said: ‘It will be a nice occasion and it will be a chance for people who haven’t met for several years to meet up again.
‘It is also to commemorate something that is extremely historic regarding hovercraft development.’
Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact Brian Russell on (023) 9258 4371 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
