MOTORISTS were caught up in traffic tailbacks yesterday morning after a lorry shed its load.

A large number of concrete blocks came off the back of the vehicle near Bognor Road Roundabout, on the A27 Chichester By-Pass at 7.30am.

The debris obstructed the western carriageway to Portsmouth.

Sussex Police and Highways Agency shifted the concrete blocks onto the side of the road just under an hour later.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: ‘A lot of concrete blocks fell off a lorry onto the road. Traffic began to flow freely again as soon as the western carriageway reopened. No-one was harmed and no damage was caused to any vehicles.’
