A PERSON has died after being hit by a train.

The casualty was hit by the 12.30pm South West Trains service from London Waterloo to Portsmouth Harbour in the Liss area at around 1.30pm today.

A spokeswoman for the British Transport Police said: ‘BTP and Hampshire Constabulary officers were called to the rail line, near Mint Road, Liss, after a person was struck by a train.

‘South Central Ambulance Service medics also attended but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘The incident was reported to us at 1.37pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

‘A file will be prepared for the coroner.’

Services resumed at 4pm but delays are expected between Guildford and Havant until 5pm.

A spokesman for South West Trains said: ‘Our immediate thoughts are with those affected by this incident.

‘Emergency services are currently at the scene of the incident.

‘We would like to apologise to customers for this disruption.

‘Services will be reinstated as soon as we are notified that the line can be re-opened.’
