A MAN was killed when the car has was travelling in left the road and collided with a tree.

The 38-year-old man from Wickham was a passenger in a silver Ford Fiesta which was travelling west on Heath Road, Soberton, at around 10pm last night when it came off the road and collided with a tree.

He suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 20-year-old driver, from Widley, suffered a shoulder injury and was treated at the Queen Alexandra Hospital.

He was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving whilst unfit through alcohol and/or drugs.

He remains in custody.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was on Heath Road around 10pm who may have witnessed the collision or saw the silver Fiesta driving prior to it.
