A BUSY stretch of road in Portsmouth was to shut today and tomorrow as part of works on new community facilities for Somers Town.

Winston Churchill Avenue was due to be shut from 3am today until 8pm tomorrow between Isambard Brunel Road and Bradford Junction.

The closure is in place to enable construction firm BAM to work on the Somers Town Central building, which spans the dual carriageway.

The area will not be accessible to pedestrians while the stretch is shut.

All other local roads will be open as normal.

Motorists, bus passengers, cyclists and other road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.

Buses one and two will divert via Holbrook Road/Arundel Street and Station Street.

However bus stops in the area are to be closed while works are carried out.
