HIGHWAYS Agency engineers have been sent out following reports of a large pothole emerging on the M27 this morning.
Workers have gone to investigate the incident in lane one of the eastbound carriageway, between junction two and three.
Hampshire’s road management system has alerted drivers to the situation via Twitter.
It comes after a large hole, which measures about a metre long and 50cm wide, opened up in the inside lane of Southampton Road, heading away from Fareham, yesterday.
Drivers were urged to take alternative routes.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said engineers have gone to check whether the pothole exists, and if it’s unsafe then immediate repairs to the road will be carried out, meaning lane closures will take place.
If the pothole isn’t classified as a risk to the public, repairs will be carried out overnight.
