HOLIDAYMAKERS will be able to get to eastern France much quicker, thanks to a new route being introduced by Brittany Ferries.
The firm, which has its UK office in Portsmouth, will be running its catamaran service from Portsmouth International Port to Le Havre from May 17.
It will operate four days a week, from Thursday to Sunday, until September 16. At other times the Normandie Express will serve the Portsmouth to Cherbourg route.
Brittany Ferries has never run a route to Le Havre, and it was historically formerly served by P&O and then later by LD Lines, which continues to operate the route.
Brittany Ferries said rising booking numbers has allowed it to offer its customers more choice.
Mike Bevens, group passenger commercial director, said: ‘Bookings have bounced back this year and we saw an opportunity to increase our range of destinations and therefore provide even greater choice for our customers, particularly those heading for eastern France, Paris and the Alps.
‘This new route brings the total number provided by Brittany Ferries between the UK and France to six – more than any other ferry company.’
The high speed service means the crossing can be made in 3 hours and 45 minutes.
