FIFTEEN litres of petrol spilled on to a stretch of the A27.

Firefighters were called to the A27 westbound, close to the Havant and Hayling Island junction, at about 11.15am yesterday.

A BMW car was leaking petrol on to the carriageway, but the road did not need to be closed.

Crews from Havant and Cosham were called out and firefighters used equipment to soak up the petrol, according to Environment Agency guidelines.

Firefighters said none of the liquid entered any drains or water courses.
