THE new Gosport ferry pontoon will arrive a day later than planned.

The pontoon is now expected to arrive tomorrow between 3pm and 5pm.

It will be floated into Portsmouth Harbour on a barge while contractors prepare to install it over the weekend.

The current pontoon will be dismantled on Friday before the new one is put into place.

From 7pm on Friday, passengers will have to catch the ferry from nearby Endeavour Quay, in Mumby Road.

The ferry service will run during normal hours but the quay’s walkway is too steep for motorbikes, cycles or wheelchair users. The new pontoon – shown in an artist’s impression above – is expected to open in the early hours of Monday.

It has to travel hundreds of miles over three days on a barge from the Netherlands, where it was built.

The £5m pontoon was originally due to be installed in April. For more details about how the ferry service will operate while the new pontoon is being installed visit gosportferry.co.uk.
