A ROAD has reopened after a man died when the car he was driving crashed into a tree on the A272.

The incident happened at 4.58am on the eastbound carriageway, approximately one mile after West Meon Hut.

Ambulance crews declared the man dead at the scene.

He was the only person in the car.

Police closed the road in both directions, between Kitts Lane, east of Bramdean, and West Meon Hut crossroads, at 5.15am.

Emergency services spent seven hours working on scene, investigating how the accident happened.

The road was reopened at 12.20pm.
