SERVICES could be reduced on the hovercraft from Southsea to the Isle of Wight.

Hovertravel is considering reducing the number of services it runs during the summer months from Southsea to Ryde.

It would mean that three services would run every hour rather than four.

It comes as the company’s statistics show that 16 per cent of hovercrafts do not arrive on time.

The firm says more hovercrafts would arrive on time if less services were running an hour.

Managing director Neil Chapman said: ‘With hovercrafts being so frequent we are actually challenged by the fact it’s a short turnaround time of five minutes.’

A consultation has been launched with passengers.
