HOVERTRAVEL is considering a new service between Southsea and the Isle of Wight.
The firm could begin flights to and from Sandown on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the summer.
The proposal for a service from July 14 to August 27 was agreed in principle at a meeting between the firm and the Sandown Partnership.
Hovertravel, which runs a Southsea-Ryde service throughout the year, says it will carry out test trips on the Sandown route, which would take around 25 minutes.
Managing director Neil Chapman said: ‘We are always open to new ideas that could boost tourism to the Isle of Wight and we have provisionally agreed the concept, subject to gaining the appropriate permissions from the Isle of Wight Council to use a suggested landing site. Working with Sandown could be a match made in heaven.’
