MORE than 400 miles of roadworks, including 90 miles in the south east, are being removed from motorways and major roads across the country this weekend, to help bank holiday trips go smoothly.

Highways England will complete or lift 177 sets of roadworks for the weekend.

These include works at junctions 3 and 5 on the M27, which have been completed.

Simon Sheldon-Wilson, from Highways England, said roadworks will be removed wherever possible by 6am on Friday leaving 97.4 per cent of its 9,534-mile network roadwork-free.
