MORE than 1,000 people have received a free bus or ferry ticket.

This summer, 7,800 homes in Gosport were targeted by travel planners, in a scheme backed by the county council.

Travel planners from My Journey Personal Travel Planning visited homes in Bridgemary North and South, Rowner and Holbrook, Brockhurst, Forton, Leesland and Privett wards.

As reported, the scheme aimed to help to get people out of their cars and on to public transport.

Around 650 one-day tickets and 400 seven-day tickets were handed out. And 943 agreed to not use their car on a journey.
