THERE are two remaining sessions for parents to have a free child car seat check in Portsmouth.
Last year’s safety checks in Portsmouth showed that seven out of 10 car seats are incorrectly fitted and failing basic safety checks.
Road safety officers working with trading standards officers from Portsmouth City Council have been offering a free child car seat check outside major stores in Portsmouth every month since May.
There will be one session at Tesco, North Harbour on Thursday, September 6, between 10am and 3pm and at the Pompey Centre, near B&Q, on Thursday, October 4, at the same times.
Council road safety officer Nicola Waight said: ‘Car seats can be a bit of a minefield so it’s not surprising that many are fitted wrong.
‘We see lots of parents who thought their seat was safe when actually it doesn’t fit the car or could fail in an accident.’
