TWO Portsmouth lifeboats were launched to rescue a yacht when it became grounded near Langstone Harbour.

Confused by a navigational marker, the skipper had sailed into shallow water while on his way from Brighton to Southsea, and issued a mayday at around 6pm last night.

The RNLI crew launched in the Norma T and quickly found the Dutch yacht, and once it was clear it was not damaged they pulled it free with a tow line.

Another Portsmouth lifeboat, Brian’s Pride, was also called to help, and both lifeboats escorted the yacht to the ferry pontoon where they were met by the coastguard.
