A passenger was killed and a driver arrested after a car crash in Portsmouth last night,

A blue BMW 3 series crashed at the junction of Western Road and Portsbridge Roundabout, Cosham, at about 9.40pm.

Police say the vehicle left the road near the underpass and ended up on its roof.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 42-year-old man from Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old woman passenger, from Portsmouth, sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man from Portsmouth, suffered minor hand injuries which were also treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

This man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remained in police custody last night.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or may have seen the vehicle before or afterwards to contact them.

Anyone with information should contact the Road Death Investigation team at Eastleigh police station on 101 quoting Operation Aramis.
