A MAN has suffered a possible serious head injury after a car flipped on to its side.

Police said the Volkswagen Golf crashed into a speed camera in London Road, Hilsea, at its junction with Doyle Avenue.

Ambulance crews took the man to Southampton General Hospital with a potentially serious head injury.

Police said the injury was not life-threatening.

Road closures are in place at London Road at its junction with Old London Road gyratory and at the London Road junction with Doyle Avenue.

Traffic is being sent down Doyle Avenue.

Hampshire police are at the scene and officers took to Twitter at just after 7pm to post: ‘At the scene of accident, London Road, Hilsea. Avoid please.’

A spokeswoman from South Central Ambulance Service added: ‘We did take an emergency 999 call at 6.31pm this evening.

‘That was to reports of an overturned vehicle in London Road, Portsmouth.

‘We sent ambulance crew, an officer and a rapid response vehicle.

‘A patient was conveyed to Southampton General Hospital.

‘It looks like a suspected serious head injury.’
