THEY have clocked up 150 years of experience between them, all working for the same company.

And with Peter Cooper Volkswagen Group, which has dealerships in Portsmouth and Chichester, celebrating its 30th birthday this year, the company is keen to show off its family ties.

Across the group 28 staff are related, beginning at the top with Peter Cooper himself, who still works on a strategic basis within the group, handing over the running of the company to his own son, Darren, seven years ago.

Then there’s Matt Osborne, sales manager at the Chichester dealership, who is married to Caroline, who works within the aftersales department at Portsmouth.

‘It’s highly likely that we have more family connections than any other business on the south coast,’ said Darren Cooper, managing director.

‘There are many family ties varying from husband and wife, brother and sister, father and son and even father and daughter at the company which we consider to be a very powerful asset.

‘They help to provide a great culture, efficient communications, strong bonds of loyalty, a sense of belonging and real commitment to the business.’

Peter Cooper added: ‘When I started the company nearly 30 years ago I didn’t envisage the family connection and loyalty that we have today. But I have to say it’s one of our biggest strengths.’
