COASTGUARDS launched a sea rescue after a group of swimmers got caught in the current off Langstone Harbour.

A passer-by dialled 999 after spotting two men treading water at about 1.30pm yesterday. The men were planning to swim from Hayling Island to Portsmouth.

One of them made it to Hayling Beach and the other to the Portsmouth side of the harbour by the time Portsmouth Lifeboat Station arrived.

A separate swimmer in the same stretch of water was found and taken to shore by the rescue team.
