A FIVE-CAR crash on a motorway slip road brought traffic to a standstill in rush hour.

The emergency services were called to the scene after the crash happened at junction 9 of the M27 westbound at 7.58am today.

Seven people were tended to by paramedics – two were treated on the scene for minor injuries and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The other five were assessed but did not require hospital treatment.

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was called out but later stood down as it was not needed.

Fire crews also attended the scene.

The slip road was shut while emergency services dealt with the incident but the motorway remained open throughout.

A BMW, Ford Fiesta, VW Fox, Vauxhall Corsa and Ford Transit van were all involved in the pile-up, and the vehicles were later recovered.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident. Anyone with any information should call 101 or 0845 045 4545.
