GOSPORT’S new ferry pontoon has been delayed by another month.

Gosport Borough Council will now wait until the end of June to float the new pontoon into place.

Its arrival had previously been delayed while the council waited for a quiet weekend with good weather.

And a number of events taking place over the coming weeks mean the pontoon, which is being brought over from Holland, will have to wait.

The council said it was important to wait for a quieter time before carrying out the work to install the pontoon.

Councillor Mark Hook, the leader of the council, said: ‘We believe the best date is around June 19.

‘The reason being that the weekends are busy up until then.

‘We have got Celebrate Gosport and the Round the Harbours Bike Ride.’

The pontoon will be floated into position over four days.

Passengers who normally use the pontoon are being told they will have to catch the ferry from nearby Endeavour Quay while the work is being carried out.
