RAIL commuters are being encouraged to travel to and from railway stations by foot, bus, bike or car sharing.
As part of a scheme to help the environment and cut congestion on the roads at peak times, Hampshire County Council has adopted a Station Travel Plan for the stations at Havant and Fareham.
The plans will be referred to in the future when considering planning applications near the stations, in a bid to encourage contributions from developers to improve the stations and their surroundings.
Councillor Sean Woodward, the county council’s councillor in charge of transport, said: ‘Many people are beginning to consider the money-saving advantages of walking, cycling, or using public transport, not to mention the health benefits.
‘These plans will encourage residents in Fareham and Havant to make more sustainable journeys.’
