March 1962 and a naval rating signals Halt to more conventional traffic as the Saunders-Roe SRN1 crosses the seafront at Lee-on-the-Solent and returns to HMS Ariel, now the site of the Hovercraft Museum. Roles such as anti-submarine warfare, air-sea rescue and mine countermeasures were foreseen. Pictures courtesy Amberley Publishing

A MAJOR road is blocked following a two-car collision.

A black Mercedes-Benz and a silver Mercedes-Benz hit each other on the A32 Fareham Road, by the junction of Wych Lane this evening.

Police were called at 8.36pm and said that the A32 northbound is currently blocked.

A spokesman said: ‘There has been a two-vehicle collision on the A32 involving a black Mercedes-Benz and a silver Mercedes-Benz.

‘One female driver has suffered minor injuries, lacerations to the hand.

‘The Highways Agency is clearing some fluids that have spilt and the vehicles are waiting to be recovered, which is causing a blockage.’
