POLICE have closed off a busy junction after an accident.

The incident is at the junction of Elm Grove and Victoria Road North, near the One Eyed Dog pub, in Southsea.

A motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a black BMW.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before taking him to Queen Alexandra Hospital.

His injuries are described as serious.

The motorcyclist had been heading down Victoria Road North, towards Victoria Road South, when it collided with the car.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the motorcyclist prior to the accident, which happened at around 6.40pm.

Police have closed the junction and are diverting traffic into Outram Road.

The road is expected to reopen at 9.30pm.

The driver of the car, a 26-year-old man from Fareham, was not hurt.

Any witnesses should call Fratton roads policing unit on 101.
