A POLICE officer is tonight in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being involved in an accident.

The 52-year-old PC was riding his motorbike southbound on the A32 near to junction 10 of the M27 when he was in collision with a green Citroen C5.

The accident at 1.40pm today forced the closure of the A32 Wickham Road in both directions between North Hill and Knowle Road and the outbound slip road to the M27 for three hours for accident investigation work.

The PC was taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.

A Hampshire police spokesman confirmed the officer had been on an unspecified ‘training exercise’.

A male has been arrested and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash.

Anyone with information should contact the Fratton Roads Policing unit on 101.
