A SECTION of a major Portsmouth road will be closed for 10 weeks from Monday.

Burrfields Road will be shut between Dundas Lane and Copnor Road while Portsmouth City Council’s highways contractor, Colas, carries out work to the bridge.

Pedestrians will be able to use the bridge at all times.

At the same time, Colas plans to carry out improvement work on the junction of Copnor Road, Stubbington Avenue and Burrfields Road.

The firm will install toucan crossings on every road, update traffic lights with vehicle sensors, and add advanced stop lines for cyclists.

The pavement will also be relaid.

Copnor Road will have reduced lanes with three-way temporary traffic lights at all times for the duration of the works.

It comes as the city council also issued a warning that there would be no parking available on Twyford Avenue on Sunday morning, to allow a large load to be transported from the naval base out of the city.
