MOTORISTS are being warned that they face six months of delays from today as roadworks begin at a notorious roundabout.

Tesco was expected to start works today on the Quay Street roundabout in Fareham which are designed to relieve congestion in and out of Gosport.

The £2m scheme will create a new ‘through-about’ lane, add traffic lights and create new pedestrian crossings as the footbridge over Western Way is removed.

The supermarket giant agreed to the scheme as part of its planning permission for the new 70,000sq ft store at the neighbouring old foundry site.

Corporate affairs manager for Tesco, Juliette Bishop said: ‘Major roadworks to modify the A27-A32 junction in Fareham start today and will continue for six months.

‘Some work including any lane closures will take place during off-peak traffic times and overnight to minimise the impact on local traffic.’
