TRAINS between Havant and Portsmouth or Fareham were delayed by up to two hours throughout the rush hour and into the evening last night.

The disruptions were caused by electrical problems at Havant.

South West Trains services from Portsmouth Harbour to London Waterloo were diverted via Eastleigh, and replacement buses ran between Havant and Guildford.

Buses ran between Portsmouth Harbour and Havant and anyone with tickets for South West Trains and Southern services were also able to use local buses between these stations.

Services between Fareham and Southampton operated on a reduced timetable and South West Trains passengers could use Southern trains between Havant and Fareham.

A spokesman for the South West Trains/Network Rail Alliance said: ‘We apologise for the disruption to our services.

‘This was due to an electrical supply problem affecting the line between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour.’

Engineers worked for several hours to rectify the problem.

Passengers were advised to check before they travelled as there were knock-on effects on several services last night.
