This is the dramatic moment when passeers-by pulled a 74-year-old driver from a car that flipped over in Portsmouth.

The car ended up on its side after an accident in Market Way, Portsmouth.

A number of people rushed to the driver’s aid after the vehicle rolled on its side.

According to Hampshire Constabulary, the Renault Scenic was driven by a 74-year-old Danish man who lives in France.

Darol Beccles, 36, a grounds worker from Waterlooville, photographed the scene as he passed.

He said: ‘We came around the corner and saw it in front.

‘There were people running over and someone trying to pull the person out through the door.

‘It was quite mad; it’s good to see people trying to help.’

A police spokeswoman said the man was not hurt in the incident.

She said: ‘The car has turned up on its side and it was blocking one lane.

‘The driver appeared shaken but uninjured.’

The road was cleared shortly after the accident on Tuesday afternoon.
