MOTORISTS are being warned of imminent roadworks as the next phase of work to ease congestion to the Gosport peninsula starts.
Roadworks will be in place on Newgate Lane, Fareham, from Friday, when new temporary road layouts will start to be put in place.
Work will begin on the east side of Newgate Lane, as work nears completion on the west side, before the £6.5 million scheme is complete and the road fully opens next spring.
Newgate Lane is being widened and work is being carried out between Palmerston Drive and Tanners Lane.
The stretch between Longfield Avenue and Speedfield Park roundabouts has already been widened and a new footway built to the south of Tanners Lane.
Work will start on the east side of Newgate Lane to continue widening the road and build a new shared footway and cycle path.
Executive member for transport Seán Woodward said: ‘The work to Newgate Lane will lay the foundation for the continuation of planned large scale investment in Fareham and Gosport to ease congestion to support businesses, improve the quality of life and make it a more attractive place for economic development.’
