POLICE have joined Hampshire County Council in supporting a safety campaign.

Hampshire Constabulary are supporting the campaign urging motorists to slow down past road works, featuring the families of people who maintain the county’s roads.

The ‘My Family Works Here’ campaign has been developed by Amey, Hampshire County Council’s highways maintenance partner.

It was launched during National Road Safety Week 2011 and traffic monitoring has shown the campaign signs are effective.

Councillor Mel Kendal, executive member for environment and transport at the council, said: ‘Road safety is a priority for the county council, not only for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists but also those carrying out work on Hampshire’s roads so we are happy to support this initiative by Amey.

‘The campaign’s message is very clear and I am sure that it will help to achieve the desired impact with motorists being more considerate as they pass those working on our roads.’
